4 Scary Uncomfortable Goals I’ve Tackled
Flourishing in Caracas, Venezuela, and becoming multilingual
The first time I moved to Caracas, the Internet was not really a thing. Price controls made ordinary products like flour and chicken disappear from the market for weeks at a time. I stretched so much it was incredibly painful but also rewarding. I also lived in Germany for two years, where my son was born.
Open water swimming under the Bridge (2.4 miles)
Swimming in open water means you can’t stop and rest. You KEEP GOING in the murky water and against currents pulling you off track.
One year I forgot my googles and someone lent me a pair. Another year a man took off his prosthetic leg just before diving in. Talk about inspiration! I have completed this event 5 times.
Starting a company at the age you’re supposed to be paying for your kids’ college.
On the heels of an unwanted divorce, in the middle of my PhD program, having just returned to the U S, I learned to keep moving forward.
This journey taught me to have presence, to connect, and to engage with people. Doing hard things builds confidence!
Joined a Latin Choir at church with no musical talent.
This experience has served me a mega dose of humility. At work I get so much gratitude for what I do. In my first months of choir, I was definitely tolerated (in a nice way) not celebrated. Still, the music inspires me to get better.
You can learn to sing at any age if you’re willing to invest and practice.
